Times: 9:30-12am – 12:30-14:30pm
Duration: 10-week Sessions at 1 day a week.
Sites: Training Environments

These sessions are to give pupils a chance to try different tasks to help with knowing what they want to do or achieve in the future when leaving school.

Our induction day will begin with an introduction to our ten workshop bays, covering essential health and safety procedures, workshop organization, and a comprehensive overview of our tools, their uses, and proper operation. We’re excited to offer a hands-on mechanic journal experience where participants will dive into the inner workings of our go-karts!

Workshop Bays

  • Bay 1: Tyre Bay. Participants will learn the process of tyre removal and replacement, culminating in a fun pit stop challenge. They’ll gain practical experience using tyre tongs, a tyre press, an air compressor, and tyre paste.
  • Bay 2: Engine Cleaning and Degreasing Bay. This session focuses on identifying faults within a go-kart. Participants will learn to service and maintain various engine parts to ensure optimal performance.
  • Bay 3: Ultrasonic Cleaning Bay. This bay introduces a more detailed approach to targeted cleaning. Participants will learn to dismantle specific parts, prepare them for the ultrasonic cleaning bath, and then reassemble and reinstall them.
  • Bay 4 (Pro Kart): Chassis and Mechanical. This bay involves a complete process of stripping down, rebuilding, and troubleshooting Pro Karts. Participants will also learn about laser alignment to optimize wheel performance.
  • Bay 5 (Road Tax): Chassis and Mechanical. Similar to Bay 4, this focuses on the strip, rebuild, and fault-finding processes for Road Tax karts.
  • Bay 6 (Caddet): Chassis and Mechanical. Participants will engage in the strip, rebuild, and fault-finding procedures specific to Caddet karts.
  • Bay 7: Detailed Final Set-Up Bay. Here, participants will apply the skills they’ve learned to prepare a kart safely according to Motorsport UK standards for racing. They will work with set-up sheets to tailor karts for different race tracks.
  • Bay 8: Dignutil Electronic Diagnostic Machine. This session introduces the use of digital technologies to identify engine power, explore ways to maximize performance, and diagnose faults.
  • Bay 9: Service Station. Participants will learn essential maintenance tasks such as oil changes, spark plug replacement, air filter checks, and clutch checks, all to a high standard.
  • Bay 10: Electric Kart. This bay highlights the differences between petrol and electric karts, with participants getting to race electric karts around a coned course.

Driver Development Area

  • Bay 1: Simulator
  • Bay 2: Reaction Test Station/Flags Test
  • Bay 3: Data Analysis and Research Area
  • Bay 4: V8 Building Station
  • Bay 5: Model Remote Control Car Station
  • Bay 6: Mindset Nutrition Area

To add to the excitement, we also have fun activities planned, including go-kart days, cycling track visits, and opportunities to support real-life race events in both mechanics and racing roles. We believe this mechanic journal offers a comprehensive and engaging introduction to the world of motorsports mechanics.
